Distribute two different colored sheets of construction paper to each student.
Align the pages as shown. This will create a flipbook with eight pages.
Ask students to design a cover for their state and local review book.
On the reverse side of the cover, have students diagram the organization of the government of Virginia.
Below the diagram, students should describe the job of each branch of the state government.
Flip to the next page. Have students draw a picture of the General Assembly building. Explain the expressed and implied powers of the Legislative Branch. On the lower half of the page, have students create a flow chart showing how a bill becomes law.
Flip to the next page. The top half should contain the duties and powers of the Executive Branch of state government. The lower half should have a list of the state courts and their jurisdiction.
On the back page, have students describe the structure and powers of local governments in Virginia.
