Session 1: Unit Introduction
Materials
- Textbook
- Handout: Political Process Vocabulary List (Attachment A)
- Transparency: “Unit Graphic Organizer” (Attachment B)
Instructional Activities
- Explain that there are many unfamiliar terms in this unit, and that the words contained in each day's lesson will be highlighted at the beginning of class. Students will have a short vocabulary quiz about once a week.
- Distribute the Political Process Vocabulary List (Attachment A). Define political process for students. Ask them to fill in the definition on the handout and to keep the list for use each day.
- Use the unit organizer (Attachment B) to provide students with a broader understanding of the political process and set a purpose for the unit. Briefly describe each section of the organizer.
- For homework, assign the section in the textbook on political parties.
