Session 19: Presidential Powers (Illustrated Web)

Instructional Activities
- Explain that the President has several roles. The President's actions in these roles include the powers listed in the Constitution that students read about in the last session. Some actions have come about through custom. Presidential roles include:
• Commander in Chief
• Economic Planner
• Political Leader
• Chief Legislator
• Chief Diplomat
• Chief of State
• Chief Executive
- Go over each role. (NOTE: Wording may be varied to match the wording used in the selected textbook.)
- Distribute markers and chart paper. Ask students to create an illustrated web listing the President in the center, and including the presidential actions and powers in each role.
- Instruct students to finish the assignment for homework.
