Session 11: Powers of Congress (Sorting Activity)
Materials
Instructional Activities
- Write 15-20 expressed powers of Congress as listed in Article 1 on index cards. Write 10-12 implied powers of Congress on index cards and shuffle the combined cards. (Copy the cards to create as many decks as there are student groups.)
- Form groups of 3 or 4 students, and distribute a pack of index cards to each group.
- Using the Articles 1, Section 8, paragraphs 1-17 of the Constitution, ask students to sort the cards into expressed and implied powers.
- After students have completed sorting all cards, ask them to stand and defend their choices.
