Session 4: Family Traditions

Materials

  • Teacher-selected book about family traditions
  • 5”x 5” pieces of cardboard (1 per student)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Large piece of butcher paper
  • Glue

Instructional Activities

  1. Read a teacher-selected book to the students about family traditions.

  2. Solicit ideas from students about their family traditions.

  3. Have them illustrate one family tradition (e.g., clothing, music, food, decorations, dances) on the 5”x5” square of cardboard.

  4. Have students glue their square on the butcher-block paper to form a quilt. Hang the quilt in the classroom.
